Nightmares

“The doctors prescribed me the pills,
But I know I’m not crazy
I’ve just lost my will
So why am I, why am I taking them still?

I need something to believe in,
A breath from the breathing
So write it down, I don’t think that I’ll close my eyes
‘Cause lately, I’m not dreaming,
So what’s the point in sleeping?
It’s just that at night, I’ve got nowhere to hide…”
-Jack’s Mannequin, “Hammers and Strings”

I’m still in a fog from last night’s terror. I can’t remember the beginning, but the first thing I do remember is being at Grand Nationals for color guard. I don’t know why I was there, but I got abducted by my stepmom’s mother, but it wasn’t my real grandma, it was a black woman that I didn’t know. She knocked me out, and the next thing I remember, we were in Meijer, and the woman was trying to get me prescription pills. She left me to pick them up, and I asked the pharmacists what the pills were for. They told me they were made of silk worm and other things, and rambled off some big medical name that I didn’t understand. They only gave me one pill, it was a blue and green capsule. This woman told me to go to my car and go get the prescription filled somewhere. We walked outside and it was dark and raining, and she kept urging me to go. I didn’t know what she was talking about and I kept asking her, “Where am I supposed to go? What am I supposed to ask them? How do I get them filled?” She just walked away. I was sobbing, I was so confused. I thought I had to be going crazy. I ran to my car to see a man in the passenger seat, and I knew if I got in, he would kill me. I went back inside Meijer, and just got the prescription filled there. The woman who took me saw, and was furious. She knew I had seen the man, that I hadn’t fallen for her trap. I grabbed the mystery pills and ran, outside to my car, and the man had disappeared. I got in and drove to a gas station where I tried calling my boyfriend. It was useless, he doesn’t have a phone and I can’t reach him unless he’s on his computer. I called my dad and kept telling him she would find me. He asked if I had money for gas, I said yes but only had $6 in my wallet. He told me he was at a bar in West Virginia and I needed to get there as fast as I could.
…then my alarm went off.
